We’ll regularly post research, articles and papers of significant background interest to managers in Students’ Unions.
This excellent Guide was commissioned to help anyone involved in higher education, (originally employers’ and trade union representatives), to understand the technical basis of the annual accounts of higher education institutions (HEIs) and the techniques they use to manage their finances. It explains the main concepts and accountants’ jargon you’re likely to find in those accounts (or financial statements, as they’re more usually known).
Several colleagues have used this to understand their institution’s finances and brief officers involved in Governing Bodies, Finance Committees or negotiations where university finances come into play.
